To assist older citzens combat and avoid being victimized is the product of several very important collaborative efforts. One of the most importantof these has been taking place on the local level whenever the leaders of three critcal groups - police, the sheriff;s office, and older or retired person - have agreed to work together in Triad programs to reduce criminal victimization of older citizens and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to these individuals.
Triad - A Concept in Action
Triad means a three-way commitment among the chief(s) of police in a county, the sheriff and older or retired leaders. They agree to work together to reduce the criminial victimization of the elderly and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to older persons.
A major purpose of a Triad is to develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for older community memebers. Activities centered on both pre-victimization (preventive) and post-victimization (victim/witness assistance) aspects.
Triad work to improve the quality of life for seniors. By providing an opportunity for the exchange of information between law enforcement and older person, Triad can also focus on reducing unwarranted fear of crime.
